1. Profile - Gillian Geraghty
(Articles/Profile)

Author : 'Piran'

gilliangeraghty With many years of service to the community and to the church, Gillian Geraghty can certainly be counted among the comparatively small number of willing helpers who constitute the backbone of our parish.  Currently, and for some time now, secretary of the Hale DCC, Gillian probably knows as much about what goes on in the parish as anyone, and she is always ready to use this knowledge to smooth the wheels of parish life.

2. Profile - Rita Newell
(Articles/Profile)

Author : 'Piran'

ritanewellRita Newell has been praising the Lord in song with her clear, true voice pretty well all her life, and she has been doing this very much in our part of the world. Born in Aldershot, educated in the town and married to a local man, Rita is as much a native of this area as it is possible to be.

3. Profile - Peter Haines
(Articles/Profile)

Author : 'Piran'

A Surrey man through and through, Peter Haines was born in Sheen, moved to Farnham nearly forty years ago, and has lived in the home he shares with Elizabeth in Oakland Avenue ever since.  In fact, Peter and Elizabeth have been close to each other all their lives: as children they lived in neighbouring streets, then they attended the same church youth club, and now they are a permanent and well-loved feature of the parish scene.

4. Pentecostal Prayer
(Prayers/General Prayers)

Author : John Daniel

This month we celebrate the Feast of Pentecost.  We will recall the giving of God's Holy Spirit to the first Christians, the disciples in Jerusalem, and pray for the gift of that same Spirit for us.

One of the great things to happen in Christianity in the 20th century was the ‘rediscovery' of the Holy Spirit by the ‘mainstream' Christian denominations.  One result of this has been that our worship is now much richer in prayers, hymns, songs celebrating the Holy Spirit.  I offer you one of these hymns as the prayer for this month of Pentecost.

Spirit of the living God,
fall afresh on me;
Spirit of the living God,
fall afresh on me.
Break me, melt me,
mould me, fill me.
Spirit of the living God,
Fall afresh on me.

5. Profile - Jim Miller
(Articles/Profile)

Author : 'Piran'

jimmiller2 There are not many parishioners who would readily visualise our Parish Treasurer working in a coal mine.  It is among the more surprising aspects of Jim Miller's long and busy life that that is what he did. Born and bred in Essex where he spent the first half-century of his life, Jim left his grammar school at the age of 14 and went straight into civil engineering, a field in which he was eventually to build a life-long career.

6. Pinky and the next door cat
(Articles/Short Stories)

Author : June Evans

"Ha!"  Pinky gave a strange laugh.  "Ha ha!"  He had been practising all week.  He had practised at his mother until she had asked him where he hurt.  He had practised in front of a mirror, sucking in his cheeks until his eyes popped.

7. Profile - Peter Neukom
(Articles/Profile)

Author : 'Piran'
People who have the opportunity of being present at the Passion Play in Oberammergau seldom seem to emerged untouched by the experience, and when Peter Neukom went in 2000 with his parents he evidently found the occasion deeply moving. Since he had been brought up in a Christian family, this experience may not have resulted in a fundamental change of direction for him, but it made a lasting and important impression.

9. Profile - Anne Young
(Articles/Profile)

Author : 'Piran'
anneyoungRoots count for a surprising amount these days, in spite of the ever-changing nature of modern life.  Few people could be more firmly rooted in the area served by our parish than Anne Young, who has lived all her life here or hereabouts.

10. Plans for 2007

Now that Christmas and New Year seem but a distant memory, your thoughts, like mine, are probably turning to the year ahead, and like me you are beginning to make plans for 2007.
