stjohnsmallOpened in 1844, St John's Hale was designed by Benjamin Ferrey (1810-1880), a pupil of the famous architect Pugin. The church was founded by Bishop Charles Sumner (1790-1874), Bishop of Winchester, whose official residence was Farnham Castle and who, with his wife, Jennie, lies buried in the churchyard, below the East wall.

stmarksmallSt Mark's Church was built in 1883 as a daughter church of St John's, at the instigation of members of the congregation who found it difficult to get to St. John's in bad weather. The land was given by Bishop Sumner who was the Bishop of Winchester at the time. The community helped by collecting flints from the common to build the walls. Local children acted as the models for the wall paintings in the chancel.

stgeorgesmallThe Foundation Stone, seen inside the Church on the left of the west end, was laid by the Lord Lieutenant of Surrey, Viscount Middleton, on 23rd August, 1902. The Church was finished and consecrated on 24th October, 1903 by the Bishop of Winchester, as Guildford was then part of the vast Diocese of Winchester.

St Mark's Centre provides a valuable asset for both local and community activities. The centre is a hive of activity with Adventurers, Brownies, Coffee Drop In, Coffee Mornings, Mums and Toddlers, N.C.T., Slimming groups, Baby Yoga, etc.,etc..

Here are a selection of pictures of the inside and outside of St George's Church. The Church took on a new look in 1999 as part of a redevelopment which also saw the demolition of the Old Parsonage and the building of a new Church Room and Vicarage.
